Today we celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala (FAFG).
Today marks 21 years of providing forensic services and investigation, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and families, to discover the truth, support justice and preserve the memory with a dignified burial.
FAFG accompanied the communities to exhume the mass graves of massacres and extrajudicial assassinations that they suffered during the Armed Conflict. Then, we integrated DNA technologies to expand on the search for the disappeared, taking advantage of the families ability to identify the disappeared victims through their DNA sample through complex investigations.
Recently, we have extended the collection and preservation of Life Stories from survivors of the Internal Armed Conflict. Through forensic sciences, the FAFG has touched the lives of more than 27,500 relatives whose loved ones were victims of the Conflict.
